It’s the shortest month of the year, and where did it go?! I’ll keep this short too – check out my February favorites below!
Beauty + Skincare Favorites
Starface Pimple Patches – I’ve tried a few zit stickers in my day, but none of them as cute as Star face. These suckers really stick too! This is more of an at home, overnight solution, but I could totally see rocking a zit star to the grocery store or the post office if it came down to it. Especially under a mask!
Burt’s Bees Herbal Complexion Stick – Another treatment I’ve been using to clear up my maskne is a solution I used to use in highschool – a tea tree roller from Burt’s Bees. It was a forgotten fave of my teen years and I’m so glad I’ve brought it back, it really does help clear up those dreaded chin spots from long-term mask use.
Transparent Embroidery Kit – How cool is this?!
This linen skirt might just be the perfect addition to anybody’s work-from-home wardrobe.
Bala Resistance Bands – I’ve been aiming to up my in-home fitness routine lately and these bands really bring the burn!
Freebird by Steven Collins Mules – these are a little different than my normal style and higher than my normal shoe budget but I do really love a funky shoe. This is eyeroll inducing, but I’ve been using #JessWearsFunShoes to catalog my footwear for a few years now. Here’s to hoping no other Jess hijacks it!
No Artificial Sweetener – I used to be Diet Coke obsessed. Like at least a can a day, if not two or sometimes more, for practically my whole life (although Diet Pepsi was the nectar I was raised on.) During 2020 I started having really unsavory side-effects to artificial sweeteners. For years I thought lactose was causing a ton of inflammation in my body, but it turns out that I’d been overdosing on saccharine pretty much daily. I’ve cut out all artificial sweeteners – not just soda – for over a month now and I feel great. Although I still plan to keep my dairy consumption on the lower side, I’m happy I can reintroduce certain dairy products back into my sometimes food groups. Which leads me to….
Ice Cream Maker – this past month I’ve really wanted to start making my own ice cream. Do you ever stand in the ice cream aisle and wish they had a certain flavor that just doesn’t exist yet? Peach cobbler? Cereal milk? An almond or coconut base that doesn’t have 3x the sugar as normal ice cream? I’m in. I have a Pinterest board dedicated to all the flavors I’ve just gotta try as soon as it gets here.
Unpolished – I started watching this TLC show mid-season with my parents and even though I find a lot of it grating and over the top, it’s become a little bit of a guilty pleasure. I may just have to catch up on Discovery+ when I have some downtime.
Anchovy Butter – my mom and I tried this towards the end of the month and it is definitely a must-make for all future loaves of crusty bread in my future.
Orange Chicken – making orange chicken at home is surprisingly easy, and is so good, I might argue even better than takeout. I use a “Panda Express inspired” recipe but half the sugar and it’s really a winner.
