Another blog post, another blurb about “omg how is it almost November already” … I feel like yammering on about the months going by is just as useful as small talk on a work zoom meeting – not at all but it must be done.
In a few words I spent the past 2 months mostly just doing my day job, cat sitting, catching up with friends and family, a weekend away to Lancaster PA, and trying to get my autumn cozy on. I did also find a lot of new favorites to share:
Beauty + Skincare Favorites
French beauty has always been on my radar, and even though the “french girl look” is a bit cliche now, it’s here to stay in my humble opinion. Less is more, and they get it RIGHT, honey! I read an article on Byrdie in which one of their beauty editors took a trip to Paris and didn’t bring a thing along with them beauty wise. These were 2 of the products I was inspired to try, and I’m glad I did!
Avene Clenance Cleanser – This stuff feels and smells like hand soap but it’s the cleanest my face has ever been. The french know what they’re doing!
Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre – I have seen this stuff everywhere – from Costco to Vogue. People really swear by it, and I’ve been using it as my moisturizier for a few weeks now and my skin is really thanking me for it.
Handcraft Loves
Ceramic Poodle Spoons – These spoons just really do it for me. They’re way out of my (and probably most people’s) price range for spoons ($40, ridiculous but I appreciate the artistry and detail), and I don’t intend on ever buying one, but they’re hilarious and cute and deserve some attention.
Biscuits and Gravy Print – This print just speaks to my inner country bumpkin. My great grandmother made legendary buttermilk biscuits (and I learned to make them too, not her exact recipe but with the most important ingredient – White Lily flour) and I truly believe biscuits and gravy are a love language all their own.
Wellness Favorites
Calm Magnesium Drink – I clench my jaw at all hours. When focusing, when I’m bored, when I’m sleeping, when I’m deeply engrossed in an episode of 90 Day Fiancee – just clenching that jaw. I’ve even considered going as far as getting botox in my masseter muscle, it’s that bad. I did some googling and found out that magnesium can help bruxism (jaw clenching) quite a bit – and I’ve found that to be true! It’s not a cure-all, but it really has helped!
Fashion Finds
This category really reflects so much on what I’ve been doing lately, just laying about the house:
Forever21 Alphonse Mucha Collection – I have always loved Mucha’s designs and my heart skipped a beat a little when I found out about the Forever21 collection of his art. I snapped up this top to pair with some blue and pink pajama pants, and haven’t looked back since.
Lunya Pajamas – Oh boy, the way I lost my mind when I found a set of these for pennies on the dollar secondhand. Silk Pajamas in a gorgeous emerald green color… in my size. I have been a bit too afraid of staining them to wear them around the house for long. I’m already eyeing their website (maybe a very good black friday sale, and a windfall of cash) for my second pair.
Pia Baroncini x Kswiss Tennis Shoes – I’m the farthest thing from a sneaker head, and I really value comfort over style when it comes to athletic shoes, but these kicks are speaking to me. Pia is one of my favorite social media styles, and I’m digging the all brown look for these shoes. I may just be making an order before too long.
Miscellaneous Obsessions
Kim Kardashian Hollywood – Don’t make fun of me, this app is so addictive. There hasn’t been a day since I’ve downloaded it that I haven’t played it for AT LEAST 30 mins. I’m already on the A-list (it’s okay to be jealous) and now just to make it into the top 100…
Streaming Spotlight
RuPaul’s Drag Race – I seriously don’t know how it took me so long to start watching this. I have LOVED every second. My favorite queens so far (I’m on season six) are Manila, Willam, Latrice, and Alaska. I can’t wait to get all caught up so I can finally dive deep into all the memes and interviews without worrying about spoilers!
Real Housewives of Atlanta – I finally started RHOA after finishing both NY and BH, and this franchise has definitely brought the giggles. I really love Kandi!
Hereditary – It took me so long to watch this film because so many people said it was so scary. I’m usually pretty fine with scary stuff (minus the Saw movies, I don’t mess with those) but with everyone saying it was so intense, I got a little scared to watch it! Midsommar (also directed by Ari Aster) was one of my favorite movies of 2019, so I knew I had to pull the trigger on Hereditary. Once I started watching, I recognized a lot of similarities between the two films. I would not say this movie was scary… creepy is a better word, but I would say it is more along the lines of traditional “horror” than Midsommar was. Enjoyed probably isn’t the best word for this, but I would definitely recommend this movie for anyone that is down for a horror flick.
Feasting On
Miesse’s Chocolates – I tried these on my early October trip to Lancaster, PA with my friend Liz, and fell in love with their dark chocolate honeycomb candy. Their cherry cordials are to die for too. I’ve already ordered some for gifts and plan to include a little something sweet from Miesse’s in my Christmas gifts this year.
Spindrift Lemon Tea Sparkling Water – This was an impulse buy and I’m already down a whole eight pack of them. Have repurchased and will continue to repurchase. Stay tuned for my definitive guide to all things sparkling water. I wish I was kidding 😉
